LJ content shredding tool

With tears in my eyes, I have shredded my LiveJournal account.

Now it's time to share the tool. ljshred@github | Just the script. You'll need Python 2.7. Command-line only. No warranty. Use at own risk. May contain nuts.

I may or may not delete my LJ now, but for the time being you can see the effect over on http://crazyscot.livejournal.com/ .

Another option

I just manually removed my all LJ posts. How difficult to add to your script option for deleting all LJ posts? I just want to have a choice between deleting and shredding...

Did you Import your LJ into DW before you shred it? I read in the dw_news that imports are happening and slow (a few days) because there are so many ppl moving to dw at the moment. You said you had already agreed to the new LJ ToS, in which case you had access to your journal. You might need an Open_ID.

I vaguely remember that rdi might have pointed a link at info about the changes to the Russian servers. I should perhaps have read it. Maybe we would have had warning of the abrupt event.

Made use of it. Successfully once I'd installed yaml.
Took two goes--first did about 18 months of entries before hitting the timeout; second, with a 20 sec delay, ran overnight and was done by morning.
