Farewell LiveJournal : comments.
at 08:03am on 09/04/2017
Thank you for writing that long and detailed post. Basically stating the issues I had with it. Yes it was very sudden, unexpected and no way to tidy things up before you leave. I have no desire to agree to some of those points, I just don't agree to their access and use.
Sooooo, here I am finally. I chose not to come here years ago for some reason, probably because things seemed fine at LJ. But not anymore. So now I've joined DW (silly name!). I am sad to leave behind over a decade of journal and memories of my travels etc. Not sure if or how I could get a copy of all my LJ posts ???

I'm aware of a handful of tools out there. Dreamwidth has an importer which can bring in all comments on your journal as well, though it (like all the tools which require you to log in) won't work until you've accepted the new ToS.

I wonder if we've had 4 months or so since December to move our journals but we just never got notified of this? If this wasn't the case then I wonder if it has anything to do with the knee jerk actions of Twitler/Hair Trumpler this passed week... it's a bit like going back to the Cuban missile craziness of the 1960s that most of us managed to sleep thru. Smells like a group of wealthy and shealded ppl want to have fun with the world at our expense, you know, use the arms stockpile and reduce the population a bit; stir things up for their entertainment cos they are bored w computer games and things have been too stable and cooshy for them for too long. The worlds mafia's want more visibility, action and options to make new money.
A part of the ToS that also concerned me was that you weren't allowed to use webcrawler type scripts to access their servers.

I knew of the server move; it provoked me into doing a wholesale import to DW. It may not have been well publicised though.
